When looking for new business space, the junkyard is probably the last place you would want to go. However, the finished result of this trash to treasure project is absolutely stunning!
Abandoned trailers are often a common sight in a junkyard, but one woman saw past the dirt and damage and found potential in one she came across. She took on the project and transformed it into a beauty salon!
From the outside, this Airstream trailer looked less than promising with years of wear and tear on it.
The inside doesn’t offer much more than a home for wild animals! Can you imagine this becoming a livable space?
Most people would not be able to see past this mess but owner, Katy McLaughlin, did some research to find out that Texas offers a mobile salon license, and with many of her clients asking Katy to come to their home, she found a solution.
Katy saw both an opportunity and a project! She took the trailer from the junkyard to undergo major renovations, starting with the exterior.
Updating the paint was a must, because it would be the first thing clients notice about the salon.
She then set her sights on a difficult task…refurbishing the interior!
The best way to take on this daunting task was to strip the trailer on the inside, providing a blank canvas.
The project then took off, making sure the old mess was gone for good.
The custom-design concept then took place to transform the trailer into a salon-like atmosphere.
It even included a spacious waiting area using teal and white accents for a vintage look.
Rope lighting was installed overhead in a chic design.
Four months later, the final interior is unrecognizable from the original mess!
Who wouldn’t love to spend some relaxation time in this stylish vintage-inspired salon?
It then became the Hair & There Mobile Salon in Houston! She gives clients the option to come to their resting location, or for a fee, will come to the client. It’s a great option for weddings, parties or simply someone who doesn’t want to drive to the salon.
Recently, Katy updated her resting condition from a generator to electric! She is constantly looking for ways to improve her trailer and client’s experience.
Hair & There provides all of the usual salon services with the convenience of bring the salon directly to clients.
Mobile salons were a new concept when Katy entered into the business, but they are hugely popular. She hopes to be able to open a second trailer unit to serve more clients.
So next time you’re thinking about opening your own business, think outside the box and get people talking about it!
There is always an opportunity to transform something old into a fresh idea. Remember, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure!
